Chatham Brewing is a remarkable craft beer destination in the Hudson Valley, with a story that began over a decade ago. It all started when Tom Crowell and Jake Cunningham, connected through their wives, discovered their shared passion for beer. Seizing an opportunity, they acquired Albany’s Big House Brewing’s former brewing system and founded Chatham Brewing.
Setting up shop in a small garage on Main Street, their dedication paid off when, just three months after their first batch, they won a bronze medal for their porter at TAP New York. Over the years, they juggled brewing duties to keep up with their growing fan base. In 2008, Matt Perry, a local home brewer, joined the team as head brewer and partner, adding his expertise to the mix.
With the arrival of a new brewer and additional fermenters in 2012, Chatham Brewing returned from TAPNY with the prestigious Mathew Vassar Cup for Best Craft Brewery in the Hudson Valley. The trio’s success led to an expansion, and in 2013, they relocated their tanks to a new space on Main Street, just in time for Christmas Eve.
In the following year, favorable changes in the laws allowed Chatham Brewing to serve and sell their beers directly to customers. Today, Chatham Brewing has become a beloved destination for craft beer enthusiasts in and around the Hudson Valley. Their dedication to quality, creativity, and community has made them a shining star in the region’s craft beer scene.
