At the heart of this winery are Jorge Ferreira and his cousin, Al Carpenter, both of whom bring rich cultural backgrounds and a deep-rooted passion for winemaking to their craft. Jorge, born in Portugal and raised in France, moved to the United States in 1971. Growing up in Yonkers, NY, he was inspired by his family’s annual winemaking traditions, often participating in grape harvests during visits back to Portugal. These formative experiences fostered his love for the agricultural lifestyle and the art of winemaking, which he now shares with Al, as they embark on this exciting journey together.
Al Carpenter, with his diverse heritage—German, Irish, and Italian—also found inspiration in the world of wine at an early age. Summers spent with his Italian grandmother in Brooklyn ignited his fascination with European culture, cuisine, and winemaking. His travels through Italy and Portugal further deepened his appreciation for these traditions, leading him to realize his dream of becoming a master winemaker. Together, Jorge and Al embody the spirit of Ferreira Carpenter Estates, blending their family histories and cultural influences into each bottle, inviting you to experience a taste of their shared passion for exceptional wines.
